I stumbled upon this forum and been reading through these threads. I have several questions and unfortunately the school (Windsor) has not provide loads of information.
I'm hoping that you guys can help me out.

Well before I start asking questions I will explain a little about myself. I'm a Canadian going to medical school at Windsor for May 2010. I'm not nervous about going to the Caribbean as my family is from Jamaica.  And while I know the two are vastly different I feel it will give me advantage in terms of food and what not. So let me get to my questions instead of boring you with my life story.

1- Rent and Apartments- The school offers a room in limekiln for about 1,500 for 4 months plus internet/cable/electricity/ water  however its a shared apartment with about 2-3 other people who I have never meet.  The apartment complex is called Limekiln.
Anyways I would prefer my own place but I have no idea where to look. My budget would be 500 a month for something that includes electricity. Is there any good real estate  I can get in touch with? Or anybody renting?

2- Shipping. I plan on shipping barrels down with Tropical Shipping. My problem is transportation from the port. I have no idea how to get them home.

3- Safe Areas- I'm a small female that likes to walk around.  I know that SKN should be like any Canadian city with great areas and those that a female shouldn't walk at night at. Can you all tell me where I should avoid?

4- Hair Salon- This should be number two. My hair is relaxed currently but I love when my hair is braiding in extensions. If anyone on the forum is a hair dresser or has a friend who has a salon, I would love if you can tell me where it is.

5- Churchs- My family is pentecostal but I have gone through the catholic system my whole life. I really want to find a nice church in either religion that is open to helping me.

Thanks so much.

Oh I also love to volunteer. Is there any volunteer organizations. I like to work with both children and the elderly. Is there any schools/libraries that need volunteer tutors as I have a bachelor degree in science. It would be great to know from now that way I can bring material down if needed. Oh and I can get my police records and reference letters if needed.

Welcome to the forum Rosi!

Nice to have another fellow Canadian around. Smiley  What part of Canada are you from?

You can hire a taxi driver to deliver your belongings from the port to your apt.

For apartments you can contact Shelley Buffett at http://www.bkassab.com

I recommend going to Amoy's Hair Salon on Cayon Street.  I know quite a few locals that go there.  She does my hair as well and have always been happy. Smiley

At night time I recommend taking a taxi or walking with a group of people and always be aware of your surroundings.

The Roman Catholic Church is located in Basseterre.

A friend of mine was doing volunteer work at the Children's Home in Fortlands.  You could check them out.

Thanks for that real estate website, hopefully I can find something reasonable as I really don't want to live in school housing.

Oh and  I currently live in the Greater Toronto Area.
